Clare Needham
is the author of the novella Bad Books, published by Ploughshares Solos. Her work is forthcoming in The Sewanee Review and has appeared in The Drift, New York Tyrant, The Stinging Fly, and The Missouri Review, among other publications. Her poems have been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and The Best American Poetry series. Her story “Berlin” won The Sewanee Review’s 2025 fiction contest and was shortlisted for the CRAFT 2025 Novelette Print Prize. Her essay “Cover Up” was a runner-up for the 2020 Jeffrey E. Smith Editors’ Prize and is a Notable Essay in The Best American Essays of 2022. She is the recipient of grants, fellowships, and scholarships from Hunter College, the Elizabeth George Foundation, the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, MacDowell, Yaddo, Vermont Studio Center, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
